2 Corinthians 13:4 Crucified Through Weakness

2 Corinthians 13:4 (KJV) For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

In the life of Christ is manifested manifold situations when our Lord was seen to be weak and lack resistance toward the incursions of His enemies especially in His betrayal, trials, sufferings on the cross. And yet the power of God was seen amidst apparent weakness. Recall Jesus healed the ears of the high priest’s servant cut off by Peter’s sword in an attempt to protect his Master.

Jesus had to go to the cross to pay the penalty for the sins of His people, otherwise, they have no salvation. In an apparent display of weakness, Christ’s crucifixion seemed to signal the defeat of His cause. But not so, He had to be crucified so that human sins can be dealt with through His sufferings even unto death.

In the crucifixion is manifested the power of God to destroy sin and death. After Christ’s crucifixion, three days later, He rose from the dead. Likewise, all who trust in Christ’s life, death and resurrection for salvation, shall live by the power of God to overcome sin and live in holiness and in the consummation eternal life. Amen.
