Psalm 16:8 Joyous Confidence For the Future

Psalm 16:8 (KJV)  I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

The psalmist had his eye on the LORD all the time. That dependence is the highlight. It is a frame of prevailing prayerfulness. A spiritual discipline that is cultivated so that there is constant vigilance.

He had his eye upon the LORD who is his unfailing Protector. This was Israel’s experience from the time God led them out of Egypt. They saw the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night guarding over them. The pursuing Egyptian army was confounded with darkness so that the Israelites were kept safe. There was the supply of water, manna in the morning and quail in the night.

Truly, with God at the place of authority leading us, we have no lack as the psalmist rightly proclaimed in Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

There is no lack to those whose trust is in the LORD.

Psalm 16:9 (KJV)  Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

Amen.
