Luke 2:40 Growing in the Lord

Luke 2:40 (KJV)  And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

During our Lord Jesus’ growing years, it was described in the Scriptures the spiritual qualities that distinguished Him as the Son of God. These spiritual qualities characterize the spiritual man.

He was first as described in our text, literally “being made strong” because of the indwelling of the Spirit of God. There is the yielding of the will to the Spirit of God in full surrender.

Secondly, He was filled with wisdom. A man that is fully yielded to the Spirit’s leading, discerns the will of God and is inclined to obey and follow. This is practical wisdom for life. For the believer, this means spending time to dwell upon the Scriptures.

Thirdly, it was noted that the grace of God was upon Him. God’s favour was upon Him.

It was described in the journeying of Eliezer, Abraham’s steward who sought a wife of Isaac, finding Rebekah, the chosen of the Lord. He was “in the way of the Lord”, the Lord led him.

All praise and glory to Him.
