1 Corinthians 10:1-5, Overthrown In the Wilderness (2)

1 Corinthians 10:1-5 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

The Apostle Paul speaks here of those in the church in Corinth who have been delivered from idolatry and yet not vigilant to keep themselves pure but did mix up with idolatry again through the partaking of meat offered to idols. There were many in Israel who experienced the mercies of God in the wilderness and yet will not acknowledge God’s goodness but chose to still murmur and complain. This is the heart of those whose life is lived after the flesh and not in the spirit.

Luke gave this testimony of ten lepers’ encounter with Jesus in  Luke 17:12-19 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. The sin of unthankfulness is another peril in the life of God’s people.

The people of God experienced the goodness of God, it is Jesus Christ who supplied their need. May we acknowledge the good that we received from Christ’s daily. Amen.
