1 Corinthians 10:1-5, Overthrown in the Wilderness

1 Corinthians 10:1-5 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

The Apostle Paul recounted the event of the Exodus when God delivered Israel out of bondage in Egypt through many miracles of extraordinary measure. And yet when Israel was brought to the brink of the Promised Land, they had not the faith to enter. Many were overthrown in the wilderness because of their unbelief.

Israel was consigned to 40 years of wilderness wandering until all the generation that were 21 years old and above perished in the wilderness. Only Joshua and Caleb and the new generation of Israelites entered Canaan according to God’s stipulations to inherit the Promised Land.

The people of God can see God’s good hand leading, guiding, caring and protecting them and yet continue to murmur against God. This the Lord called a stiffnecked people.

May God’s people be mindful of God’s good care for our lives and have a grateful heart to acknowledge and give thanks to Him always. Amen.
