1 Thessalonians 5:17 A Commitment to Prayer

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)  Pray without ceasing.

The Apostle Paul speaks of a commitment to prayer for the people of God – pray without ceasing. Prayer is communion with God. Let that communion be vibrant and flowing and unbroken. It is the means by which God has appointed His people to be strengthened to do the will of God.

Our Lord Jesus while on earth will rise up early to a place of solitude to commune with His Father in heaven. Surely, our Lord’s daily schedule is packed full of many engagements, yet He understood that in His humanity, He needed to keep close to the Father for fellowship and strength to do the Father’s will.

In Gethsemane, He prayed earnestly as He would soon be betrayed and tried and crucified. In the moment of trial, He took time to pray and continue in prayer even as His sweet were as great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Luke 22:44 (KJV)  And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

John 12:27 (KJV)  Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

Hebrews 5:7 (KJV)  Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Let us pray in season and out of season. Amen.
