1 Peter 5:8-11 Be Sober, Be Vigilant

1 Peter 5:8-11 (KJV)  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The ferocious nature of the devil is highlighted. The adversary seeks to devour and the believer is exhorted to be sober and be vigilant. Be ready, undergirded by faith, to ward off the darts of the evil one.

Suffering may come in the testing. The grace of God will see His people through. He will show the way to escape. Faith is tried, and spiritual life is strengthened. The believer moves in the path of maturing towards a mature faith.

Glorious indeed is the power of God’s grace to establish and strengthen and settle us to behold the deliverance yet again. Amen.
