Hebrews 11:3 Believing and Therefore Understand

Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The Christian ethos is “I believe therefore I understand”. The world will tell us to understand before we believe, show the evidence then we will believe. It is indeed a short-sighted approach to life in the real world where God rules sovereignly over all His creation.

The writer of Hebrews therefore affirmed that the world came through the creative act of God by His word. The psalmist expressed this well in Psalm 19:1-3 (KJV)  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

This knowledge brings us to embrace Him for life and salvation – Psalm 19:7-9 (KJV)  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true andrighteous altogether.

May His Word be proclaimed and treasured so that His Name will be greatly exalted for His honour and glory. Amen.
