2 Corinthians 13:4 Live By the Power of God

2 Corinthians 13:4 (KJV)  For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

Meditating upon the crucifixion of Christ, the mystery of God’s salvation is revealed by a picture of weakness. A most unlikely method, the way by which God solves the problem of human sin, and yet most logical. Through Christ’s death, He overcame sin.

It was revealed 700 years earlier in Isaiah 53:4-6 (KJV)  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:10 (KJV)  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Yet there is a catch, after His death, came the resurrection from the dead. This is the power of life that Christ imparts to all who trust in Him.

This is the portrayal of the Christian life too, following Christ seemed a weakness to the world but it is not. It is the power of life – now and forevermore. Amen.
