Psalm 55:22 Cast Thy Burden Upon the LORD

Psalm 55:22 (KJV)  Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

“To cast” is an action word that means literally “to throw, to hurl, fling”. It means “to let it be taken away from you”. And the object of that action are the burdens in the heart of God’s people.

And the promise from His Word is that when we do so, He shall sustain thee. The word “sustain” means “to seize, contain, measure”. The LORD is going to take our burden from us and sustain us, support and nourish us.

In a sense, the burden is contained as God takes over and takes charge of it. The psalmist says earlier in Psalm 55:16-17 (KJV)  As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

This is the result of his prayer. He finds help, relief, solace, comfort, guidance, and direction as he cast his burden upon the LORD. All praise and glory to His blessed Name. Amen.
