Psalm 34:9-10 No Lack to Those Who Seek the LORD

Psalm 34:9-10 (KJV)  O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Such knowledge is practical wisdom for life. It enables us to trust God in whatever circumstances that life brings us into, knowing that He orders all things well for His honour and glory.

It endows God’s people with faith to seek Him in all their ways. Indeed, as Jesus taught His disciples to pray in Matthew 6:11 (KJV)  Give us this day our daily bread.

Give to us the bread of our necessity, the bread that suffices for each day. This is a prayer for God to take care of our physical needs. May our heavenly Father supply and furnish our needs. The bread that we need, do give to us today, and day after day.

This is a prayer acknowledging God as the Sustainer of our physical wellbeing! The emphasis is on the action of God supplying. This is a prayer request for God to provide food on the table for our meal.

It can be a prayer that we can take for granted in the environment that we live in where there seemed to be ample material supply! This prayer goes beyond simply asking for bread but to asking God to supply all of our physical and material needs in this earthly life. This is a prayer acknowledging our dependence upon God and thanksgiving for who He is as the Supplier of all our needs.

This is the literal translation, “Our bread for today give to us today”. The portion of material needs that we have need of, Father in heaven, be pleased to supply us.

It is interesting that this prayer is framed as a daily prayer. I believe it is to inculcate in the heart of every child of God a filial dependence upon Him. It brings a sense of humbleness to our hearts to acknowledge God as the divine Provider. This is truly the case. Amen.
