Isaiah 62:6-7 Watchmen For the LORD

Isaiah 62:6-7 (KJV)  I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

The picture of the city of God, Jerusalem, being carefully guarded and protected.

The watchmen at the watchtowers that guard the city will be continually on the watch, so as to foresee at a great distance the dangers that threaten them. They are to be diligent and attentive.

It is also observed that the men appointed as watchers in the East would do so by a loud cry as they go their rounds in order to mark time and to show that they are awake to their duty.

By way of application, Calvin observed pastors are reminded of their duty to be constantly praying and preaching; it is not enough to feed the Lord’s flock, if they do not likewise defend it from the attacks of robbers and wolves. “Night and day,” therefore, they must guard and keep watch, if they wish to perform their duty in a proper manner.

May the Lord strengthen the watchmen of Israel. Amen.
