Titus 2:14 Christ Gave Himself For Us

Titus 2:14 (KJV)  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Unconditional and sacrificial love is the motivation for Christ to give Himself for us. The effect of it is that we might be redeemed from our sins. The word “iniquity” speaks of the outworking of sin in crooked behaviour, from the root verb that means “a bending”.

When our sins are purged, we are purified in Christ. In the sight of God, we are holy. A people called out, separated unto God. “Peculiar” speaks of God’s redeemed people as His costly possession and a distinctive treasure special, choice, chosen. [Friberg Lexicon]

A special distinct character of God’s people is that they have a propensity to do good to His praise. Amen.
