Isaiah 61:10 My Soul Shall Be Joyful in My God

Isaiah 61:10 (KJV)  I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Life under God’s care calls for much rejoicing. Isaiah the prophet testified, “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD.” He speaks of a joy that emanates from the very soul of our being. Such joy is glorious and unspeakable.

It comes as a result of salvation by grace through faith in the righteousness of Christ Jesus. He places us into His church, whom He is the Head and cares for His own, as a bridegroom his bride.

Notice the verb “clothed” and “covered” that speaks of as external act appropriated, the sacrifice of Christ in His life and death, won this undeserving garment of honour. This is cause for joy. All by the unmerited favour of God. This keeps us tender and humble before Him and gives us the strength to share the good news of the reason for our joy. Amen.
