Psalm 146:5 Happiness, Help and Hope

Psalm 146:5 (KJV)  Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

The psalmist testified that life finds its fullness and wholeness in God as revealed in the Scriptures.

It brings happiness to him for his God was his help and his hope. We are not alone when we have God with us. His is our present help and indeed holds our future. We are comforted.

When Jacob left his home to make his way to his uncle Laban’s home, God was his help and hope. God appeared to him in a dream by a ladder and he saw angels of God ascending and descending upon the earth. And God blessed him. He awoke out of his sleep and knew that he was in the presence of God. What comfort in the time of his greatest loneliness. This the psalmist attested as “happy”.

May the Lord bring comfort and strength to His people in the time of their loneliness. Amen.
