Romans 6:11 Alive Unto God

Romans 6:11 (KJV)  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The verb “reckon” means “to count” and here in this context it means “to put down on one’s account”. In other words, in the sight of God, these individual Christians, who have repented of their sins and turned to Christ, are reckoned to be dead to sin and alive unto God. On these individuals, God’s wrath for sin has been averted, they are given eternal life in Christ.

As the Apostle Paul explained in Romans 6:7 (KJV)  For he that is dead is freed from sin. How is this possible? Romans 6:6 (KJV)  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Not only does he have victory over the penalty of sin through Christ’s finished work but he has victory over the power over sin through Christ’s power in his life.

This is the abundant life promised to Christ’s disciples. We are exhorted to live in holiness before God in Christ because this power is available to us!

As such, my son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. (Proverbs 1:10). Amen.
