Revelation 6:6-7; Famine (2)

Revelation 6:6-7 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

The recent development of the virus COVID-19 has disrupted supply chains worldwide. Suddenly, there was a run on the supermarket, the shelves were emptied.

When there is no enough to go around, rationing begins. Whether it is for daily necessities or food supplies, there is a sense of panic and fear amongst the population.

We read of the impact upon countries as the virus began to hit hard upon its people with many falling sick and many dying.

It seemed the world has ground to a standstill.

From peacetime to wartime and the resulting famine and the prospect of great sufferings, hardships and finally death. What a tragedy in the life of man on earth. Truly, he is unable to establish true peace and prosperity and rest because of the fallenness of his nature.

Lockyer observed well, “Famine is the natural result of ambitious conquerors who take peace from the earth… This condition foreshadows the lamentation and mourning of those who will have to pay famine prices for the staff of life in the great tribulation, when a quart of wheat will be sold for one day’s wages of a labourer.”

Truly, hard times are coming. May the people of God be granted the faith to look heavenwards from which come our Saviour as Titus exhorts us in Titus 2:12-14 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Amen.
