Revelation 4:1; Voice as It Were of a Trumpet Speaking

Revelation 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door wasopened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard wasas it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

1540 years earlier in about 1450 B.C. Israel was encamped at the foot of Mount Sinai, the presence of God and His voice was described as the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud. John like Moses was bidden to the very presence of God.

Exodus 19:16-20 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

Our Lord Jesus speaks here in Rev. 4:1 as the voice of a trumpet, with awe and authority. In was the giving of the law at Sinai, here it is for the meting out of the law in judgment! The Great Tribulation was about to begin upon earth!

God’s law is to point us to Christ – Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring usunto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Let men on earth repent and make right with God while God gives time, for a time will come when it will be too late.

Recall Jesus’ warning in the scene of the rich man in hell and Lazarus the beggar in heaven.

Luke 16:26-31 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
