2 Corinthians 3:4, Confidence in God

Confidence in God

4And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: (2 Cor. 3:4 KJV)

The Apostle Paul enunciated his confidence toward God in helping him through life’s challenges. Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) articulated this thought well, “Confidence in the natural world is self-reliance, in the spiritual world it is God-reliance.” A timely reminder as we begin this New Year of grace 2019.
The Swiss Reformer Ulrich Zwingli (1484-1531), a martyr for the faith, who began the Reformed Church in Zurich, tells us that his confidence toward God is through Jesus Christ the Author and Finisher of our faith and applied this thought well, “Our confidence in Christ does not make us lazy, negligent, or careless, but, on the contrary, it awakens us, urges us on, and makes us active in living righteous lives and doing good. There is no self-confidence to compare with this.”
We will seek the Lord in prayer before making every big or small decision having no confidence in the flesh. We will review the teaching of God’s Word to understand His blessed will whenever in doubt so that our actions are Bible-based and Christ-centred. When in doubt, we will not hurry to decide but wait upon the Lord for His guidance to be revealed before acting. Such trust must have we through Christ to God-ward! Amen.
