Romans 14:12, Give Account to God

Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

It has been the theme of the Old Testament Scripture that man does not live his life without accountability. He is accountable to the God, who made him. Solomon admitted in  Ecclesiastes 3:17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work. Also, he urges us to fear God and keep His commandments because we will be judged one day for all our actions – Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

The Apostle Paul is emphasizing the often flawed understanding that man makes one against another.

Swindoll observed well, “Our ability to judge has several shortcoming:

We are not omniscient, so our judgment doesn’t have all the facts.

We are not objective, so our judgment is tainted by self-interest.

We are not perfect, so our judgment are hypocritical.

We are not God, so our judgment has no jurisdiction.

Only God has the right to assess the value of people because He alone owns them. He made people, He redeemed them, He knows them, and He cares for them.”

He further said well, “Christians don’t need others to lecture them or to become their self-appointed life coaches. Most believers already have a long list of changes they would like to see in their own behavior. So, having someone add a few more doesn’t help. In fact, it hurts. Most believers already feel overwhelmed as it is.”

May the Lord help His people. Amen.
