Romans 14:11, Every Tongue Shall Confess to God

Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

The Apostle Paul quotes from Isaiah 45:23 acknowledging that Jesus Christ is only living and true God, the supreme authority, and Judge. He is to be feared and followed. All homage and submission must go to Him. All believers will have to give an account of their lives before Christ. William MacDonald said well, “So then it is clear that we will all give an account of ourselves, not of our brothers, to God. We judge one another too much, and without the proper authority or knowledge.”

Jesus is the One that we ought to please and serve. He deserves our all because He gave His all to save us. He sacrificed His life to save us from eternal damnation in hell fire that we may finally stand in heaven’s glory. He shall justly be the Judge to assess how we have lived to do our duty and repay our gospel. May we serve Him with great delight!

When this passing world is done,

When has sunk yon glorious sun,

When we stand with Christ on high,

Looking o’er life’s history;

Then, Lord, shall I fully know

Not till then how much I owe.

[Robert M. McCheyne, 1813-43]

May He say to His servants, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:21, 23). Amen.
