Romans 10:12-16, The Truth Will Prevail

Romans 10:12-16 (KJV) 12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

It was sad that Israel rejected their Messiah, Jesus – the Suffering Servant foretold by the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 53:1 (KJV) 1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? The people of Israel thought that Jesus the King will free them from being a vessel state of Rome and Israel will once again be strong again as a nation. When He rode on a donkey into Jerusalem on the Sunday before His crucifixion on Friday – His disciples shouted, “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest” (Luke 19:38). The disciples understood this Jesus is the King prophesied by Nathan the prophet in the Old Testament who will sit upon David’s throne to rule forever! How can a man rule forever? Jesus Christ, dear friends, is not a mere man, He is the Son of God, the exact representation of God.

Matthew recorded the scene of Jesus’ coronation as King in Matthew 21:8-9 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

By Thursday night, the Jewish establishment afraid to lose their authority turned on Jesus, put Him on trial overnight and by early Friday morning Pilate had sentenced Him for crucifixion for proclaiming that He is the King of the Jews, Saviour of the world.

The Apostle Paul was establishing the fact that Jesus came to solve a bigger problem than just freeing Israel from the Roman yoke. The Jewish people need to understand this. It is a two-thousand-year-old misunderstanding that the Apostle Paul hope will be clarified. In His first coming, Jesus entered human history, came from heaven, to live a perfect life, fulfilled all the laws of God on our behalf and to be betrayed to die on the cross, to take the penalty for our sin as the prophet Isaiah declared in Isaiah 53.

Such glad tidings, the Jews, by and large, have rejected. It must not discourage God’s people to persevere in the gospel work. We are the instruments for the gospel; God will do the saving work! Amen.
