Romans 8:38-39, Blessed Assurance

Romans 8:38-39 (KJV) 38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is nothing that shall be able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the conviction borne out of a clear understanding concerning the unfailing power and desire of God to protect His people under His care. The Apostle Paul speaks of Jesus Christ’s continual intercession for His people at the right hand of the Father in heaven. He speaks of the indwelling Holy Spirit that prays and enables the believer to have the strength to do God’s will for his life. He tells us that we are a privileged people chosen by the Father called out from sin unto holiness, purchased by the Son for an intimate fellowship with God and a protected people sealed by the Holy Spirit –destined for heaven!

As the Apostle Paul surveys his environment for anything that may potentially to separate us from God’s love, he found none. Not in the matter of death for absent in the body is present with the Lord nor in life for he experiences God’s love keeping him. Not angels or principalities – nothing in the spiritual and supernatural realm. Not anything present, not anything in the future. No height or depth or any being whether human or angelic adversaries can separate us from God’s love.

This is the blessed assurance that the Apostle Paul has in his heart that is translated into a lifetime of fruitful ministry,  finally dying a martyr’s death. May God grant His people such assurance that will propel them to humble service in His vineyard. Amen.
