Philippians 3:14 For the Prize of the High Calling of God

Philippians 3:14 (KJV) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The Apostle Paul was in prison when he said those words. Persecution as a result of preaching the gospel, he was in chains, yet not despairing but strong in faith trusting the Lord. He sought to finish the course of work that the Lord has entrusted him at his conversion.

He was focused, determined in the strength of the Lord to accomplish the work of co-labouring with the Holy Spirit in ministering to the saints and rescuing souls from the clutches of the evil one. A work fraught with many dangers yet he was able to testify, “out of it all the Lord delivered me”.

There is a prize that his work brings which the Lord Christ Jesus, Himself, will give. Therefore, he says, “I press toward the mark…” There is a finishing point and he could see it and he kept that focus on completing his course. A worthy example for our emulation. Amen.
