Matthew 22:37 Love the Lord

Matthew 22:37 (KJV)  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Jesus shows us how we ought to love Him. He says that we are to love our God with all our heart, and with all our soul and with all our mind.

Notice the heart, soul and mind describe the person of the inner man in us. The heart speaks of the will and emotive part of our inner being wherewith comes conviction – Romans 10:10 (KJV)  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

And the soul from the Greek word “psuchḗ” literally means “breath” and speaks of life describing all of a man’s affection – desires, affections, and appetite. Let the soul be set to love the Lord.

And the mind, the thoughts and the thinking man have a mind to love the Lord for He encompasses all that is pure, honest, just, lovely, good report, virtue and praise – Philippians 4:8 (KJV)  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Alas, we love the Lord because we first experienced His love. If He so loved us with everlasting love, our reasonable reciprocation is to love him with all our being. Amen.
