Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit Bearth Witness with Our Spirit

Romans 8:16-17 (KJV)  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified together.

The Holy Spirit’s work in the heart of a child of God is to affirm and ascertain that he or she belongs to God. This is the miracle of the spiritual birth. There is a kindred identification with the Godhead that we the Lord’s.

The giving of the Holy Spirit called “the earnest” is a guarantee like a downpayment that His people shall inherit the kingdom of God, and a fulfilment of God’s promise will be realised.

Though this earthly life lived to the fullest in Christ brings persecution, suffering can come. The joy of the consummation in the glorification of the body is a promise that all will end well. Therefore, let us rest in the Lord. Amen.
