Luke 17:5 Lord, Increase Our Faith

Luke 17:5 (KJV)  And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. 

A most appropriate prayer. Lord help Thy people to trust Thee more and more, as the days pass. The object of faith is not faith itself but the Lord. As God’s people look to Him, they find Him most reliable, dependable, and trustworthy.

There were moments of weakness when God’s people looked not to Him in faith but allowed the situation to overwhelm them and therefore become discouraged. In those moments of weakness, it is most appropriate to cry out to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”

The hymn “Day by Day” is the writer’s prayer of faith to meet the challenge of each new day.

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
The strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

May the Lord strengthen His people to grow in faith, day by day! Amen.
