Psalm 33:18-22 Our Soul Waiteth for the LORD

Psalm 33:18-22 (KJV)  Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. Our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

The psalmist eminently understands God’s presence in times of need as he tarries with Him in prayer. He testified, “Our soul waiteth for the LORD: He is our help and our shield.” He found in the LORD, his reliable helper.

He extols the LORD with rejoicing in his heart as he waits upon Him. His hope is in Him. He knows that the LORD will not suffer him to be tempted beyond measure. Therefore, he rests in Him to help and defend him.

He particularly highlights the LORD’s faithfulness in caring for him in times of famine, where the lack of provision is acute and the matter is grave, a matter of life and death. He extols the faithfulness of God in delivering him in those desperate times and he praises Him for His great mercy that is always unfailing for the blessing of His dear ones who loved Him and serve Him. Amen.
