Psalm 3:5 I Laid Me Down and Slept

Psalm 3:5 (KJV)  I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

The psalmist commits himself to the LORD as he laid down at the close of the day to rest. The troubles of the world, the burdens of life, the needful rest for a weary body and the refreshing of the soul in rest bring the psalmist to close his eyes. He was fast asleep.

At the appointed hour, he rose again and acknowledged that the LORD had granted him a blessed time of rest before Him. He says, “the LORD sustained me.” The LORD was there upholding him, protecting him, strengthening him.

There is refreshing in the LORD. He proved the gainsayers by faith – Psalm 3:2-3 (KJV)  Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

Amen.
