Proverbs 14:26-27 In the Fear of the LORD

Proverbs 14:26-27 (KJV)  In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

The heart that is devoted to following and obeying God is the beginning of wisdom. Such a man has a good understanding. He is a God-fearer. Strong confidence has such a man in the pathways of life. He walks in the pathways of God’s shelter. God is their security.

The God-fearer comes to God in Christ, who is the fountain of life, the living fountain by which we are nourished in the wilderness of earthly life. This is well depicted at the beginning of the Hebrew people when they came out of the bondage of slavery in Egypt where God cared for them in their wilderness travel. Manna and quail, pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. Israel had a place of refuge.

This early life of the people of Israel depicted well the Christian who comes to Christ, is freed from the bondage of sin and experienced the forgiveness of sins. Realizing our lost estate, our lost condition, we come to Christ, the fountain of life, we are given eternal life, from the fountain of living waters. Thus, escaping from the snares of eternal death.

Hallelujah! And Amen.
