Psalm 119:77 Thy Tender Mercies

Psalm 119:77 (KJV)  Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.

The tender love that a mother has for the child she has borne is the meaning of the word “tender mercies”. It comes from the root word that means “womb”. Truly, as the child in the womb of the mother and the umbilical cord supplies the oxygenated blood to the unborn baby, so our LORD supplies and nourishes His people whom He has borne.

Indeed, the LORD’s tender care is life, we live by His compassion upon us. That is another rendition of the word “tender mercies”. When the psalmist speaks of delighting in the law of God, he attests to the spiritual feeding and nourishing of his soul.

As one late pastor rightly pointed out, “Every time He says, “Thou shalt not,” He is simply saying “Don’t hurt yourself.” And every time He says, “Thou shalt,” He’s saying. “Help yourself to happiness.”

Let us, therefore, delight in obeying His Law and live. Amen.
