Lord’s Day, Vol. 10 No. 35

A Time to Keep Silence, And a Time to Speak

Solomon provides the time-tested words of wisdom for such a time as this when he said in Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7b “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: … 7b a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” Listening with sadness and grief to the words of the Honourable Prime Minister in his National Day Rally that it is the right thing to repeal the law in Section 377A. I humbly appeal and set the matter straight in the sight of God that it is not the right thing to do to repeal the law in Section 377A.

The implications of repealing law 377A are ensuing social upheaval and wanton immorality. This was impressed upon my heart from two particular passages of Scripture – Genesis 19 and Judges 19. After studying at length the warning from Scripture, there is a great burden to speak out so that the future generation will not be overwhelmed by such lawlessness.

Genesis 19:1-2 (KJV) And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

Genesis 19:4-7 (KJV) But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodomcompassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

The two men who visited Lot, angels sent to destroy the city of Sodom, were harassed by the men of the city who sought to “know” them, a term to mean “soliciting sexual relationship”.

These men compassed the house where Lot was. Lot foolishly offered his two daughters to the aggressive, prowling homosexuals seeking new partners in order to protect the two men. How warp is the morality of Lot! What tragedy for the two girls!

The repealing of 377A is to allow two consenting males to do what they want privately because it is their own private affair. But the nature of such men who have the unnatural tendency to find new partners all the time certainly endanger and encroach upon the privacy and safety of other men with whom they sought to make partners of them. This is not to understate the dangers that such men pose to the womenfolk in society!

Genesis 19:8 (KJV) Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

A recent statistic showed that homosexuals in the UK who contracted Monkeypox have ten or more sexual male partners in a 3 months period. A reality that the Scripture warns us happening today in a society where 377A is taken down!

Our Bible study becomes more alarming as Judges 19 is examined. Lot’s two girls were spared because the two angels rescued Lot and his family before the fire and brimstone of God’s dreadful judgment fell upon the city of Sodom.

Jude 7 (KJV) Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange fleshare set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

In Judges 19, Israel has already been warned in God’s laws given by Moses in Mount Sinai before they entered Canaan which is the foundation for the law 377A.

Leviticus 18:22 (KJV) Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Leviticus 20:13 (KJV) If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Deuteronomy 23:17 (KJV) There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

In Judges 19, certain men in the city of Gibeah from the tribe of Benjamin were homosexuals. The Levite from Bethlehemjudah together with his concubine and servants lodged in an old man’s house who provided shelter for these weary travellers. There were no hotel services available back then.

Judges 19:22 (KJV) Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

Lawlessly, these homosexuals surrounded the house and violently demanded to have the Levite so that they may have sexual relations with him. Notice these homosexuals operate in a group, they acted together to find their prey!

Scripture recorded the impending dangers that Singapore will face when the 377A law is repealed.

The old man offered his daughter and the Levite his concubine to these predators – Judges 19:23-24 (KJV) And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly. 24 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

The recent case of the young taxi driver abused by two men who boarded his taxi is a grave warning to the great incursions upon the peace of our land that will come when the law is lifted.

And to tie the hands of the church so that the church cannot preach concerning this danger to the very lives of men and women who may be our loved ones because the law has been repealed? God forbid!

Judges 19:25-27 (KJV) But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light. And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

Should this be the right thing for Singapore to do? Care we not for the well-being of the future generations of our fellow Singaporeans? May the decision-makers of the land make careful deliberation for the continued well-being and safety of our people! Amen.

Yours lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
