1 John 3:2-3 Every Man That Hath This Hope Purifieth Himself

1 John 3:2-3 (KJV)  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

This is the Blessed Hope of the Church when our Lord returns to bring His church to glory. What a day it shall be! We shall be like Him and we shall see Him as He is. To see the resurrected Christ as the two disciples on the road to Emmaus did so wonderfully experienced when they exclaimed in Luke 24:32 (KJV)  And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

The expectation of soon meeting our Lord has a purifying and sanctifying effect upon the lives of His people – every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. This is a proper test concerning the veracity of our hope in Christ.

The psalmist’s constant resolve attests to this hope when he testified in Psalm 119:15 (KJV)  I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

May the Lord bless our expectant watching and waiting. Amen.
