Titus 3:5 Washing of Regeneration

Titus 3:5 (KJV)  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 

We are renewed with a new nature, one that is spiritual, that longs for God, not the fleshly old self, that abhors God and His ways. This is the work of the Holy Spirit.

We receive cleansing when the gospel is being given to us, and the Word of God is made known to us. God’s Word has a sanctifying work in our hearts.

Psalm 119:11 (KJV)  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 

The entrance of God’s Word into the heart gives light to the sin-darkened soul.

Proverbs 2:10-11 (KJV)  When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
