Luke 24:49 Tarry Ye

Luke 24:49 (KJV)  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

The church was commanded by the resurrected Christ to gather and pray that the Father may send forth the Holy Ghost to empower them for the work of the gospel.

Acts 1:8 (KJV)  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The tarrying led to the enduing and the sending forth of His people to be witnesses. The outreach was to begin in Jerusalem, their native, capital city, and extended to the region beyond.

The coming of the Holy Ghost, Jesus foretold His disciples would be to save souls – John 16:7-11 (KJV)  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

The human instruments will be His people who tarried with Him in prayer, endued with power and sent forth. Amen.
