1 Corinthians 1:27-29 Weak and Foolish, Base and Despised

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (KJV)  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

God works very much contrary to the way of the world. He uses the weak and the foolish to confound the wise, the base and despised to put to nought the mighty. God’s ways are indeed designed so that man may know his place before Him – that no flesh should glory in His presence.

Isaiah 53 shows how God redeem proud, sinful men by sending His Son to suffer for our sakes.

Isaiah 53:1-3 (KJV)  Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not

And yet we see God accomplishing His perfect will through His suffering Servant.

Isaiah 53:4-6 (KJV)  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

May the Lord send forth His humble servants to do His bidding for His glory. Amen.
