Psalm 119:162 I Rejoice At Thy Word

Psalm 119:162 (KJV)  I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.

The phrase “great spoil” speaks of the “booty, prey”, a victorious army’s reward for having subjugated the enemy. A hard-won battle brings with it great satisfaction having taken possession of the enemy.

The psalmist was facing great persecution in which the promises of God’s Word rejoices his heart.

Psalm 119:161 (KJV)  SCHIN. Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word.

He rejoices at God’s Word because it has helped him to remain steadfast in the faith.

Psalm 119:166-168 (KJV)  LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly. I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee.

As he clung to God and His Word, he finds deliverance from his predicament. He was not just a hearer of the word but a doer of it. That was great rejoicing for him because God’s Word is divine wisdom for every situation in life.

Thank God for His guidance. It is indeed the rejoicing of His saints. Amen.
