2 Timothy 2:3 Enduring Hardness

2 Timothy 2:3 (KJV)  Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

“Endure hardness” is one-word in the Greek κακοπαθέω (kakopathéō) which means to suffer (endure) evils (hardships, troubles), to be afflicted, to suffer ill.

The Apostle Paul gave his reason for this exhortation to Timothy by his example in 2 Timothy 2:10 (KJV)  Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. Also, 2 Timothy 1:8 (KJV)  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 2 Timothy 1:13 (KJV)  Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

The Apostle Paul speaks of God’s grace tarrying with him in his affliction exhorting Timothy to persevere as a good soldier of the cross in 2 Timothy 3:11 (KJV)  Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 1 Timothy 1:18 (KJV)  This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (KJV)  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Trusting God and finding victory through prayer and His Word. Amen.
