Zechariah 4:6 Life in the Spirit

Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)  Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

The rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem after Israel’s 70 years captivity could only be accomplished in the power of God. The encouragement given to Zerubbabel is that God’s power will prevail to accomplish His holy purpose to reestablish the nation as God’s witness. The Temple will be rebuilt, God will see to it.

From a human standpoint, the enemies in the surrounding nations and the hostile neighbours pose great challenges to the people of God. As such, God has to affirm in the hearts of His people to depend upon Him to see Him accomplish the task to the glory of His Name.

Israel will once again be gathered together as a people with the reestablishment of worship. It will be a momentous task amidst the opposition to the rebuilding of the Temple. The assurance given to His people is that the Lord of hosts, by His Spirit, will establish His Word.

Faith to see the glory of God. Faith to put the hands to the plow to accomplish the work before us. May the Lord bless it to His glory. Amen.
