John 6:67-68 Test of Conviction

John 6:67-68 (KJV)  Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Jesus has fed the five thousand and thereafter the people started to leave Him. When there was no one left of that once-excited throng, Jesus asked His disciples a most penetrating test of conviction? Will ye also go away?

If Jesus is the Giver and Sustainer of our life, where else can we go but abide in Him! This was Peter’s conviction. He understood that Jesus not only feeds them with earthly bread by a notable miracle but He Himself is the Bread from heaven whom one believes to receive eternal life. Peter is convinced in his heart and declares with his mouth by way of testimony – Thou hast the words of eternal life.

John 14:6 (KJV)  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Peter realized that he has nowhere else to go but to eternally abide in Christ and be eternally strengthened and nourished by Him.

May this be our conviction too. Amen.
