Matthew 6:20 True Treasures

Matthew 6:20 (KJV)  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Jesus showed His disciples what are true treasures. It is not temporal but eternal. He says lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.

True treasures cannot be corrupted by dust or rust. Earth treasures are subject to decay and decomposition. The human soul is that eternal treasure that we have that can be preserved unto eternity. It is begotten in Christ, appropriated by faith.

True treasure is safe from the most notorious thieves. The accumulation of earthly treasure brings to its possessor no true peace for they are afraid that someone might take possession of them. But heavenly treasures, all that we do for Christ’s sake, that redounds to His glory, will be a treasure for us in heaven.

Can we not distinguish the difference? Let us not be deceived for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Let it be Christ let Him be our chief treasure.

Amen.
