1 Peter 4:7 Be Sober and Watch Unto Prayer

1 Peter 4:7 (KJV)  But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Is the world spinning out of control as evil seemed to manifest itself wantonly and rampantly?

The Lord says in Isaiah 13:11 (KJV)  And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

Believers are exhorted to sober. It means “of a sound mind, judgment, of a measured and ordered way of life be self-controlled“.

The word translated “watch” literally “not intoxicated”, to be sober. To watch unto prayer is to keep vibrant communion with God. Having a sense of the times as God reveals to us through His Word, committing all things to His care.

May the Lord strengthen His people with steadfast endurance. Amen.
