Lord’s Day, Vol. 9 No. 36

WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?

Jesus Christ entered human history in the fullness of time, born of a virgin – the seed of a woman (Genesis 3:15). The seed of man is tainted with the curse of sin. The curse of sin, the Bible tells us, is DEATH. None can escape. But for Christians, we are born-again to live forever more. When a Christian dies, the Bible says, he is asleep for one day, when Christ returns, he will awake again!

There are 3 pertinent truths concerning the Lord Jesus Christ that we can glean from Hebrews 1:2-3.

  • JESUS IS THE CREATOR

“ … by whom also he made the worlds” (v2b)

Jesus Christ is God. He is fully man and yet fully God. He was right there when this universe was created.

John 1:1-3 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

When God created the earth, man was the focus. He was created last of all, after God created the plants, land, celestial bodies, sea creatures, birds and animals. Marvel at the wisdom of God in His creation. God made a most habitable place before He made man. Man is special because man alone is created in the image of God.

(2) JESUS IS THE SUSTAINER OF LIFE

“and upholdeth all things by the word of His power…”  (v3)

Jesus Christ upholds all things by the word of His power. He is the Sustainer of all life, including yours and mine. In Luke 5:5, Jesus bade Peter launch out and let down the net again for Peter, an experienced

fisherman, failed to catch any fish all night. Peter obeyed. What happened next was astounding.

Luke 5:6 (KJV) And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

The word of Jesus Christ has power. He commanded the fishes to swim into the net at that moment whereas for the whole night, He commanded fishes not to swim into the net of Peter. Realize that our livelihood comes from Jesus Christ. Even our very lives come from Him.

(3) JESUS IS SAVIOUR
“ … when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (v3c)

Jesus’ mission on earth was to live a sinless life and to die as a sacrifice on the cross, to take away the curse of sin and death. Jesus is fully God to represent God and He is fully man to represent man – 1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Jesus demonstrated that He is God because He had power to heal the sick, to give sight to the blind, to let the deaf hear, and the lame walk. He had power over nature and He had power over evil spirits.

He shed His blood on the cross to wash away our sins. Jesus died and three days later rose from the dead, conquering death for us. Death has lost its sting. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive (1 Corinthians 15:22)! Jesus says, “Because I live, ye shall live also.” (John 14:19)

HOW CAN I BE SAVED?

If you are not a child of God, you may ask, “How can I be saved?” The Bible tells you,

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)

If you want to be saved from your sins, you can pray the prayer of salvation to receive Jesus into your heart right now.

Heavenly Father, I know I am a sinner and my sin has separated me from God. Please forgive me for all my sins. I repent in humble prayer. Cleanse and wash me by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. I believe and accept Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and Saviour. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Scripture Text for the Message “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified”

1 Corinthians 2:1-11 (KJV)

1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
