Two Answered Prayers

The Lord answered two prayers last week. The first was the confession of faith of Caren Chan, the daughter of Mrs Rachel Chan who attends our Mandarin Outreach Service on Sunday Morning at 10am.

It was on Thursday afternoon, 15 April 2021, that a visitation was made to the hospital to pray for Caren Chan who was hospitalized early Monday morning due to difficulty in breathing. There was fluid build-up in her lungs and infection in one lung. Loved ones of Caren prayed fervently for her healing and especially for the salvation. She has just returned to the ward after an X-ray. She shared that the lung infection has healed. The gospel was shared with Caren using “The Way to God” tract printed by the World Missionary Press. Lo and behold, she was receptive to the message, willingly confessed the Lord in prayer. Recalling, the first time sharing the gospel with Caren in February 2018 during her father’s wake, there was resistance. This afternoon, the Lord prepared her heart. She was aware that the Mandarin Outreach Service has begun worship at the Grace Room in level one with additional seating capacity.

Caren’s mother, Mrs Rachel Chan, comes weekly for our Mandarin Outreach Service with her helper Marianne Diampoc. Mrs Chan was baptised on 30 September 2018 Marianne was baptised on 30 December 2018. Invitation was extended to Caren Chan to join her mother for worship on the Lord’s Day. Let us pray that the Lord will strengthen Caren in the faith and grant her healing that she may be discharged from the hospital and come to church for worship with her mother.

The second answered prayer came in the evening of 16 April 2021. It was concerning Mdm. Peh Choo Pun who suffered a hip fracture after a fall on 23 March 2021. She attends our worship

service since 2014 with her family. Mdm. Peh was baptised on 12 October 2014 by our late Pastoral Advisor Rev. Dr. Tow Siang Hwa together with her family who came to the Lord from idolatry – Her son Jonathan Tang Meng Wei, daughter-in-law Jacqueline, grandson Jovan and grand-daughter Janelle. Mdm. Peh suffered a stroke in January 2020. There was weakness in one leg. She goes for kidney dialysis treatment three times a week. The weakness in her leg makes it more difficult for her to make the trips to the kidney dialysis centre. The Lord answered our prayer last year. Mdm Peh was healed and she was able to resume dialysis treatment. However, the hip fracture is much more serious and she was in great pain. She undergone two surgeries last week to stop bleeding in the colon. Thank God the bleeding finally stopped. With her weak physical condition, it was not feasible for her to undergo the hip operation for six weeks. That was on 31 March 2021. She would need to be transferred to a nursing home. For Mdm Peh, she cherished her freedom to walk and go about her daily life. With the possibility not being able to walk again, she would not be able to go for kidney dialysis treatment easily.

On the 14 April 2021, she discussed with her family that she wanted to stop dialysis treatment with the hip condition causing her much suffering, pain and distress, with little possibility of surgery and recovery and unable to walk again. This would mean that she will be transferred to a palliative care ward. Without dialysis, there will be two weeks of life remaining.

On 16 April 2021, we prayed together in the hospital ward together with the family that the Lord’s will be done, knowing that for a Christian, to be with the Lord in heaven is better, having completed one’s work on earth. We were awaiting the date for her transfer to the palliative ward.

On the evening of 17 April 2021, while visiting Mdm. Peh, we received the good news from an X-ray report that her hip was healing well. With
“rehab” she can get back some movement. To us, it was a miracle, an answer to prayer. The Lord has heard our prayers and Jesus has caused her hip condition to improve. She has decided to resume kidney dialysis treatment. All praise to God. Shared with Mdm. Peh for her encouragement 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. In Mandarin, it is literally “My grace is sufficient for your use or needs.” This verse brought much comfort to both the sufferer and those who are helplessly saw her in her agony. Do continue to pray for Mdm. Peh as she recovers.

Thank God for two answered prayers last week. We look to Him. All praise and thanksgiving to God! Amen.

Yours Lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
