Lord’s Day, Vol. 9 No. 6

Thanksgiving for BHBPC’s 7th Anniversary

Thank God for His blessing in gathering 77 members and friends to worship Him on 31 January 2021 for the occasion of Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church’s 7th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service. The message was entitled “Let Us Labour Therefore to Enter into His Rest” (Hebrew 4:11a).

The two thoughts for our meditation  were:

(1) Prove of a Persevering Faith and

(2) Prospect of an Enduring Heavenly Rest.

Our Lord Jesus speaks to His disciples concerning the days leading to His Coming again:

Matthew 24:4-14 (KJV) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Notice the proliferation of false Christs, wars and rumours of wars, nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences, and earthquakes in diverse places, persecution of Christians of all nations, the church shall be greatly divided, false prophets shall arise to deceive, utter lawlessness and Christian love waning. The Christian will be sorely tested. Nevertheless, there will be a forward thrust in the preaching of the gospel around the world for a witness to all nations before the closing of the church age.

The church needs to be undergirded with the strength of faith that will see us through to the end of our life journey. The labour of the Christian is in personal sanctification – faith and repentance. That our hearts are set aright through personal soul-searching, confession and purging of every encumbering sin especially the sin of unbelief – lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief (Hebrews 4:11b).

There are those who have run the race before us, setting for us the example and encouragement for our perseverance of faith.

I remember the late Rev Dr Tow Siang Hwa, our pastoral advisor – 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. And my late grandmother Mdm. Koh Seow Ngoh – 2 Timothy 4:18 (KJV) And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

A closing chorus to share given this week by one who loves Jesus Christ taken from “Jesus Loves Me! This I Know”.

Jesus Is Coming Again

Jesus is coming again

Teach us all to be prepared

To meet our Lord in the air

Jesus coming soon again!

Yes, He is coming. (3)

Jesus is coming soon.

Revelation 22:12 (KJV) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

May the church be ready and prepared to welcome Jesus Christ. Amen.

Yours lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
