Revelation 13:13; He Doeth Great Wonders

Revelation 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

This second beast is later revealed to be called the false prophet:

Revelation 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs comeout of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived themthat had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The acts of the false prophet together with the Antichrist rival the testimony of the two witnesses in Rev. 11.

Revelation 11:3-11 And I will give powerunto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred andthreescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall liein the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

It is interesting to observe how kings on earth are anointed by the priest, closely resembling the biblical kings so the false prophet supports the reign of the Antichrist to lend credibility.

The great imitator accomplishes miracles comparable to those done by God’s servants. For example, the signs Elijah performed were marvellous indeed. He called to God and fire came down from heaven, burning the sacrifice and the wood on the altar and its stones, and even licking up the water in the trench that surrounded the altar (1 Kings 18:38). And he called down fire from heaven to consume two captains with fifty men each (2 Kings 1:10, 12; see also Luke 9:54–55).[1]

Luke 9:54-56 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
