Revelation 3:5-6; Clothed in White Raiment

Revelation 3:5-6 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

A fast-forward of the text to Revelation 19:7-9 provides the scene of the saints who overcame seen in heaven clothed with fine linen, clean and white.

Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

MacArthur observed well, “The white garment promised to overcomers is especially meaningful to the inhabitants of this city where woolen garments were manufactured. True Christians, as already noted, will be clothed in white garments. In the ancient world, white garments were also worn for festive occasions such as weddings. True Christians will wear theirs at the marriage supper of the Lamb (19:7-9).” [1]

He further pointed out, “In John’s day, rulers kept a register of the citizens of a city. If someone died, or committed a serious crime, their name was erased from that register. Christ, the King of heaven, promises never to erase a true Christian’s name from the roll of those whose names were “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (13:8).[2]

Matthew 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

There is a way back for dying churches if they would awake from their slumber and repenting of their sins and beginning serving and living, the church will yet again be revived and there will be spiritual renewal. May the Lord help us! Amen.
