Revelation 3:4; A Few Names

Revelation 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

There was the Nebuchadnezzar there in Sardis, though pagan, God opened his spiritual eyes and he worships the living and true God. He is one whose garment was not defiled.

These were like the Reformers who refused the church should die and they obeyed the injunction in verse 2 – strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die.

Though this is a dead church full of unregenerate people and few true Christians yet there was a small remnant. Only Lot and his two daughters escaped the judgment that came upon the Sardis church in Sodom.

The Lord knows those who are His. He protects them but the unrepentant, in the fullness of time, He judges.

Romans 11:4-6 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Amen.
