Revelation 2:9; Attack

Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I knowthe blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

According to Jesus’ words, there are those in the church who are of the synagogue of Satan. This is not a synagogue building, of course, but the people gathered there. They assembled and planned their assault on the church, putting themselves at the disposal of the devil to carry out his will. They may have claimed to be the assembly of the Lord, but in heaven’s eyes these people were not true Jews, but emissaries of the prime adversary of God and His people, the evil or Satan. [Tatford, Last Word; Lenski, Revelation]

When Judas Iscariot walked with Jesus together with the other disciples, our Lord knew Judas was of the devil. He will betray Him to be crucified. Yet, our Lord suffered it because it was in the will of the Father that He will suffer betrayal and overcome it for our sakes.

Jesus spoke the reality of tribulation in the disciples’ life after He was ascended to heaven. He promised to send them His peace as they abide in Him – John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Dear Brethren, Be of good cheer! Victory is secured for us in the Lord. Let us continue to seek and trust Him. Amen.
