Revelation 2:5; Thy Candlestick

Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

The candlestick refers to the church and the removing of the candlestick signifies the ceasing of the church’s witness. Our Lord speaks of a time when He will swiftly end the church’s witness. Their facade of a “heartless” witness has become pointed out. This heartbreaking, lifeless work is now being exposed.

Jesus says in Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

In the words of Solomon to the church in Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. Also in Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. The church has not been diligent to keep her heart pure and devoted to her Lord.

In the words of Moses to the Israel of God in Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Psalm 107:43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

Our Lord is lovingly leading her people back to her through repentance and re-consecration. Thank God for His lovingkindness towards His people. Amen.
